Did you know the flying lanterns festival is celebrated in Chiang Mai? Maybe you have seen this festival before, here it’s known as Yee Peng and it’s usually celebrated in November. During this magic night, thousands of flying lamps decorate the dark sky. It’s so beautiful!

Chiang Mai is a Northern Thailand province located some 434 miles (700 km) away from the country’s capital, Bangkok. This city is so popular that it’s even known by the locals as the second capital of Thailand.

Chiang Mai is an ancient 13th-century city with over 700 years of history. So as you can imagine, it has a great rich culture. In fact, there are more than 300 Buddhist temples in the city, more than any other city in Thailand!

And one of these ancient temples is Wat Rong Khun, also known as the white temple. This majestic place is a very popular tourist attraction and, of course, it is possible to do a day tour if you visit Chiang Mai!

If you travel a little to the north of Chiang Mai, you can meet some of the hill tribes. There are at least 10 different hill tribes in Northern Thailand and they have their own sophisticated systems of customslaws, and beliefs. One of these customs is the use of big rings on girls’ necks to make them larger.
