Safari parks are these very big natural reserves where animals wander freely. Think of it as a zoo, but way better! Wait a minute, animals are completely free?! That’s right, but there’s no need to be afraid! They won’t hurt you because these animals are generally pretty friendly to humans. Also, you’ll be inside a well-protected vehicle driven by a professional. So don’t worry, everything is under control.

There are safari parks all around the world, but today will look at the ones located in Kenya. Like the Nairobi Safari ParkMount Kenya National ParkMasai Mara National Reserve, and Amboseli National Park.

The Big Five

As a country in East AfricaKenya has widespread forests and really beautiful wildlife. Some of the most majestic animals in the world live in this country. Like The Big Five. Wait! it has nothing to do with the “high five”. Kenya is home to five African animals that are simply known as The Big Five. Do you know which ones? I bet you have seen them around in movies like The Lion King.

These animals are the lionelephantleopardcape buffalo, and black rhinoceros. Something interesting about this group of animals is that they are not called the big five because of their size, but actually, because they are the five most difficult animals in Africa to hunt. No wonder why, these predators are super strong and territorial, so they can be very dangerous to people!

But don’t worry, they don’t attack people who just want to see them and take a few pictures. And we’re here just to say hello.

Other Animals in the Safari Park

In case you’re wondering, yes, you can see more animals than just the big five. There are around 25,000 different animals in Kenya, so we’ll get to see some of them in the safari parks.

Like zebras and giraffes! These two animals are always in big groups called herds, and they are herbivores. This means that they eat mostly grass and leaves!

Zebras have white and black stripes all over their bodies, and they belong to a family of animals named equines, like horses and donkeys

Giraffes may don’t have stripes on their bodies, but they have spots and really long necks that come in handy when they eat leaves from trees. In fact, giraffes are the tallest animal in the world

You can also see some cheetahs around. You’ll recognize them immediately not only because of the black-spot patterns they have all over their body but also because of how fast they can run! They have thin but very powerful legs, so powerful that they’re considered the fastest animal on land!

If you get close enough to a lake during your trip, maybe you can even see a scary crocodile! This big reptile likes to wait underwater for its prey, which most of the time, are antelopeswildebeest, and sometimes even leopards

There are one animal crocodiles don’t dare to touch, and that’s the hippopotamus. These huge animals also move in herds and they like to cool off in lakes.

We’ve talked about several predators and yet, the biggest threat you may face is the monkey. And by “threat”, I mean that they’ll probably try to steal your phone or camera! Monkeys are regarded as one of the most friendly animals, but they’re also very playful and curious.  So, you can get close to them but remember not too much!

And there are many more animals you can see in Kenya’s safari park, but this video would be hours long if we talk about all of them. Also, we don’t want to spoil any surprises you may find there!

Just remember that if you want to see how wildlife animals live in their natural habitats, you need to visit in the early morning times. Because as the sun goes up, the temperature rises, and animals tend to hide in shady places.

Be sure to follow all safety measures and, even though most animals are friendly, always keep a safe distance from them.

Don’t forget to check the weather and pack a pair of binoculars before planning your trip!
