Hello friends! We’re the Ostmo family, and we love learning about countries and people. Our oldest daughter, Melaya, has tons of friends all around the world and some of them have traveled by air before, like her friend Kaya from South Africa.

Kaya Was Very Nervous The First Time She Flew on a Plane

Kaya was telling Melaya about her first experience boarding an airplane and how nervous she was! Melaya was surprised to hear how Kaya felt nervous because she’s traveled so much and never felt scared but Kaya said that it was different because she had never been on a plane before and didn’t know what to expect. 

Melaya has had a lot of international flights, so she knows there’s nothing to worry about. International means something that connects two countries together.

Kaya said that the plane was very big, with lots of seats and there were people walking around everywhere. It was a little scary at first because she had never been on an airplane before! But she soon got used to it, and she said that the flight was very smooth. The only thing Kaya didn’t like was the food. She said it tasted bad and nothing like the food at home!

The Helicopter is Stefan’s Favorite Way to Get Around By Air

Now, in Germany lives another of Melaya’s friends, named Stefan. He and Melaya chatted a while ago and Stefan told Melaya that his dad owns a company that rents helicopters for private trips and he and his family can travel to different places for free! Stefan’s dad is a pilot and he can fly both helicopters and airplanes. He has a lot of friends who are pilots and sometimes they all travel together. Stefan says it’s fun traveling in helicopters, especially because, since they are so noisy, he has to wear a headset to communicate with his dad and he feels like a pilot too! 

Francisca Loved to Travel in a Hot Air Balloon in Brazil

Melaya has a friend named Francisca who lives in Brazil. It’s over 5,000 miles away from Melaya’s hometown in London. 

Francisca’s family loves going on Hot air balloons during their vacations. Francisca told Melaya that she was scared the first time she went on a hot air balloon ride because at first it didn’t look like they were going anywhere but then they started floating up into the sky! Francisca said that after a few minutes, her brother started pointing at things below them, everything looked so tiny! Francisca and her brother were having so much fun they forgot about being scared! Melaya thinks hot air balloons are very cool, but she still isn’t sure if she would ever go on one. 

Chloé Flies Above Paris in a Blimp

Now, in France, lives a girl named Chloé, who is also Melaya’s friend. The last time she and Melaya talked, Chloé mentioned she often gets to travel in a blimp. Her aunt owns an advertising company and she also owns a blimp. A blimp is a big air balloon that is used for advertising. It can fly high up in the sky and it has a cabin where you can sit and enjoy the view.

Chloé and her aunt both fly over all of Paris to see all of the famous landmarks and no matter how many times Chloé flies in the blimp, she is always so excited.

She especially loves the old and sophisticated buildings of the city.

Arthur Wishes to Ride a Glider in Belgium

Not far from France, in Belgium lives another of Melaya’s friends named Arthur. He loves adventure and he has always wanted to ride a glider. A glider is a light aircraft that is designed to fly without using an engine. He said he has only seen videos of gliders on YouTube but Arthur said he wishes to fly with one someday and get close to the birds in the sky.

 He said he wants to feel the wind and see how it feels like when you fly. Arthur’s dream is to be a pilot one day, but he has not yet decided which kind of aircraft he will fly. He said that someday he would like to explore the world and meet new people in other countries.

Melaya loves talking with all her friends about the things they like and she said there are some other amazing ways to travel on air that she’ll like to try, like jets, ropeway, and biplanes.
