This is Lorenzo, he owns a pizza shop in Napoles, Italy. Lorenzo cooks all kinds of pizzas in his restaurant, but the most popular one has to be the Margarita pizza. This delicious pizza is topped with tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, extra virgin olive oil, and a few basil leaves.

Just like almost any other chef and restaurant in Italy, Lorenzo uses only the freshest ingredients to prepare his food. He even grows his own vegetables!

This is Matilde, she is a chef who cooks in a fancy restaurant in Bologna, and her specialty is Lasagne alla Bolognese. If it’s not clear by its name, Lasagne alla Bolognese has its origin in Bologna and it’s made by alternating layers of pasta sheets, meat, sauce, and cheese.

Whenever she’s not working and can cook for herself, Matilde always enjoys her meal with a glass of wine, just like almost everyone in Italy.

Now, this is Federico, he works in a small but cozy coffee shop in Venice. Federico’s specialty is desserts, and his personal favorite is tiramisu! Although its name sounds a little bit Japanese, this double-chocolate dessert is 100% Italian. Tiramisu is also prepared with reduced balsamic vinegar which gives a balance of sweet and sour.

This is Majella, she is a writer, mother of two young children, and she lives in Florence! Whenever Majella and her children go out for a walk, she buys gelato for everyone. Gelato is like ice cream, but way better; it’s made daily by artisans, it has less fat, less air, is silkier, softer, and has much more natural flavoring. Majella’s favorite flavor is strawberry!

This is Davide, he owns a vineyard in the peaceful region of Tuscany. But Davide not only likes wine, he also likes salads, especially Panzanella. This healthy and delicious salad is prepared with juicy, sun-ripened tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh basil, and leftover bread, and it’s seasoned with olive oil and vinegar.

Whenever there’s an important celebration and Davide gets to prepare salad, all his family members visit him; his parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, everyone! Italian families are very numerous and they love to get together to enjoy a meal on a special day.

Now, this is Francesca, she is the head chef in a very famous restaurant in the heart of Rome. This restaurant is famous for many dishes, but Francesca’s favorite is Spaghetti alla Carbonara. The authentic recipe of this delicious pasta include fresh eggs, guanciale (pork jowl), Pecorino Romano cheese, and black pepper. One interesting thing about this dish, is that many people outside Italy think its preparation includes cream, but the original recipe has never included cream!

This is Vincenzo, he is a young gastronomy student who lives in Puglia, and right now he’s learning how to prepare the delicious cheese known as Burrata. This delicacy is made from mozzarella and cream. The outer casing is solid cheese, while the inside contains stracciatella and cream, giving it an unusual yet soft texture. Truly a dream for cheese lovers!

And this is Elena, she just opened her coffee shop in Langhe and she’s excited to prepare her favorite dessert: panna cotta! Although many people believe this dessert was invented by a Hungarian woman, panna cotta is an Italian classic. It’s prepared with sweetened cream thickened with gelatin and then molded. Elena loves to garnish it with red berries jam!

Well, friends. That’s just a little something about Italian food.

Arrivederci, amici!
